We love our fields

As part of the July Members Meeting, we spent some time giving our site some love. Armed with rosettes, we all chose our favourite spot on the Go Local Food fields at Ovington. We found some new spots. And rooted around areas we haven’t seen for a while! Best of all, we saw a whole rainbow of affection for our fields and sheds…

I chose here because it was my first job as a workshare…it felt great to get started
This is the best spot for rest!!
I love the view here. I also love how there is comfrey growing all over the site.

Some people loved the places to rest, others chose the spot where they learnt a new skill. There were favourite veg and the best spots to catch up with other members. There was thanks for members who kept Willowmena and her barrow looking so good and a lot of love for the sheds, water systems and the tools of our trade (even the seed catalogue!).

My father made the sign which is just above Willowmena's head - so I chose here. It’s lovely to see Willowmena being looked after and her wheelbarrow planted up.
Our all-important water storage on the fields
My favourite place on the field where we can boil the kettle and have a cup of tea!

Two spots came out on top, the tomato polytunnel with three rosettes and (drum roll) with four rosettes, the winning spot was… the gate with the netted beds and the Tyne Valley stretching out beyond. Apparently best of all there, is the gate post you can lean on after some hearty digging!

Two of the rosettes members placed inside the tomato polytunnel

It was so lovely to hear why members prized each spot. Lots of memories of events shared, wisdom passed on and member catch ups.

Resting by the gate reminds me of summer BBQs
I helped to build this, right back at the beginning of Go Local Food
Our ShedQuarters - community shed!
This is where I have learned so much. I couldn’t grow anything before and now I have my own greenhouse, growing all sorts.
