How many onions?

Work is well underway at Vicarage Corner, Matfen.
Our onion sets arrived late – seems there was a shortage last autumn. Consequently we didn’t get as much planting done as we had planned before the really cold, wet, weather arrived.
Volunteers and members have been putting in back breaking hours since February to try and catch up. Rows and rows – 10 at the moment – of onions and garlic have been planted. There is general consensus that a transplanting machine should be high up our wish list.
Rabbits and pheasants found our first planting of cauliflowers delicious! We now have cabbages planted under netted hoops which we hope will protect our plants. Next up 2 rows of red and black currants were planted.
Ian and 2 of our wobrkshares spent a day + with potato planter – maybe less back breaking!? Which means we have lots of potatoes in the ground. And then came the really dry spell…
