New ways to use our beetroot and chillies
We are very excited to announce that in 2022 we will be partnering with Northumbrian Pantry. There has been an enormous shift in the past year towards people looking to purchase local products. Having jars that include our sustainably grown seasonal veg offers a new ‘source to spoon’ option, demonstrating the talents of both growers and makers.
Alice and David started Northumbrian Pantry, two years ago: ‘Our long-term goal was to reach out to local growers to build a partnership allowing us to provide a guaranteed demand for the future harvest. This summer we started to investigate how GO Local Food might supply the Pantry. As a trial run Ian Todd, the lead horticulturalist, provided a considerable harvest of beetroot which was promptly made into, not any chutney, but award-winning Spiced Beetroot and Apple Chutney!’
Following the success of the pilot, in 2022 we are planning to set aside up to 3 whole beds to grow beetroot in for Northumbrian Pantry to work their magic on. This will contribute a considerable proportion of ingredients for their Beetroot Chutney and local customers will be able to enjoy the benefits of sustainably grown high-quality ingredients in their jars. We are also planning to share part of our chilli crop to be used in one of Northumbrian Pantry’s biggest selling varieties, Chilli Relish, which holds a Great Taste Award Star.
This arrangement coincides perfectly with our 10th Anniversary, and we have commissioned Northumbrian Pantry to produce a special edition GO Local Food 10 Year Anniversary chutney (lots more on Anniversary plans to follow!).
For now check out Northumbrian Pantry and don’t forget to try the Spiced Beetroot and Apple Chutney!
